There are many examples in history of the inevitability of violent protest when it is against a government which abuses its power for any reason. 2014 Ukraine has become yet another.
There is no future in politics and you don’t need to be political to know that, when push comes to shove, you really need to shove, or government will make you die for it.
It’s not too much of the Ukrainian people to ask of their government to not align their country or to behave like their totalitarian, conservative, cynical neighbors to the East. Even if Europe’s deal wasn’t as good as Russia’s, aligning with the West would prove to be more beneficial for the long term, from every conceivable angle.
It’s as simple as what each side represents, and how each philosophy translates into the real world. Russia’s backwardness will only keep Ukraine in the shadow of its own totalitarian past, always running the risk of repeating history’s lessons, the same as Russia currently is.
Much like every other Eastern European country, Ukraine must learn to stand on its own feet and work hard for what it’s worthwhile.
Ukraine deserves a limited government, conservative in power and democratic in ideology. The Ukrainian people deserve the opportunity to work for their dreams and grind at their own future. They deserve to make the future that government will never bring.
None of that will be possible if Ukraine aligns itself with Russia. It’ll delay its priceless self-emancipation at best and it will make the country as a whole take many steps backwards as it falls even further behind the rest of the civilized world from every possible perspective of the Enlightenment.
It is clear that it is going in the wrong direction, for the people have already been fighting fire with fire, they already pushed back, then they shoved back, and now they’re fighting back and to that I say F#CK YEAH!
Much love,
Zen Politics
