A case of prostitution

I dont usually quote politicians, but what the hell, it’s Christmas.

“No matter what our views, we must stay united in our determination to prevent unintended pregnancies, support pregnant woman and mothers, reduce the need for abortion, encourage healthy relationships, and promote adoption.”

The politician’s name is irrelevant, at least to my point, for their idea was certainly at least inspired if not plagiarized from various feminist and pro-life movements. This point rings true to your humble servant, not only in the case of abortion, but also in the case of prostitution which is becoming a real debate subject in Canada and a few other countries.

It seems to me that legalizing prostitution follows the same backwards approach as banning abortion. Both are attacking the effect instead of the true cause of both of these phenomenons.

Now I am aware that it’s not fashionable to think of relationships as happy and that true love exists and all that, but humor me for a moment. If you’re in a happy, healthy relationship with someone who suits you and you suit them, what is the purpose of abortion or prostitution? Do either serve one anymore in a world where ideally everyone is educated enough to understand what a healthy relationship even is and what it requires to exist and thrive?

Many like to say that sex is a need, like food or sleep. They got it wrong. It is love that is required by all of us, like food or sleep. Sex is just the effect of love, like prostitution and abortion are the effect of broken homes, broken hearts and uneducated masses about what love is really all about.

Call me a fool, a romantic, an idiot, but the evidence is all around you. Why do unhappy marriages end in husbands cheating, unwanted children et al? Why does the opposite also exist? It’s not damn brain surgery to figure out what the real answer is!

Maybe we need to focus on removing the NEED for the oldest profession (and one of the most dangerous for women). Maybe, like abortion, we need to make them obsolete already… and no, the need is not between our legs, it’s what’s beating in our chest.

Much love,
Zen Politics
